Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Stewart is a 28-year veteran of the newspaper industry and has worked at seven newspapers. He spent 10 years at the San Francisco Examiner in a variety of posts including Foreign/National News Editor. While working as a graphics editor there in the early ’90s he co-founded the Hearst Graphics Network, a ground-breaking initiative that enabled all Hearst newspapers to share digital graphics over the then nascent Internet. For the last 10 years, Stewart served as the publisher of the Black Hills (S.D.) Pioneer . Stewart conceived the idea for a newspaper industry video network in 2006 and spent 2 and-a-half years testing and perfecting the technology and business model. Stewart is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.
John P. Gomez
Chief Financial Officer
John is a software executive in the fields of Business Intelligence and Management Information Systems. He was co-founder in 1994 of Vento Software Inc. The company’s product has been successfully installed at over 50 telecommunications and banking customers around the world. Vento Software was subsequently acquired in 2000 by SPSS (NASDAQ:SPSS), now part of IBM. John is a private investor in early stage companies. He is chairman of the Black Hills Equity Fund and is actively engaged in bringing technology entrepreneurship to western South Dakota. John started his career with IBM where he was a software engineer. He holds a Computer Science degree from Georgia Tech and a Masters degree in business from the London School of Economics.
Director of Business Development, V.P. Sales
Prior to joining iNK Barrel in January 2010 to head its marketing and sales division, Ross served as publisher of the Mitchell (S.D.) Daily Republic. Over his 20-year newspaper career, Ross has been a sales representative, advertising director and also general manager of the Hastings (Minn.) Star Gazette. It was in Hastings that Ross joined the ranks of live sports webcast pioneers. In 2006, at his direction, the Star Gazette began broadcasting high school sports including football. In the fall of 2007 he brought that concept to Mitchell and during his three years as publisher of the Daily Republic the paper profitably broadcast more than 150 live events including football, volleyball, basketball and hockey. Ross is a graduate of Minnesota State University at Moorhead with a B.S. in Mass Communications.
Chief Technology Officer
An experienced web developer and database expert, Jake joined iNK Barrel at its inception and built and refined much of the core iNK Barrel CMS. Prior to joining the company, Jake headed the digital media operations at the Black Hills Pioneer newspaper and before that helped guide the online and video strategies at Western Sky Media, a regional new media leader. He is a Mass Communications graduate of Black Hills State University, specializing in multimedia, video, television and photography.
