Football Season Is Here This season is going to be a strong one for the network. The number of games on the schedule is already huge and the list continues to grow. For current affiliates: If you haven't loaded your game schedule into the system, now is a good time to do it. Other affiliates are counting on your games, particularly when their home teams travel to your city. Also, we encourage you to check and re-check the schedule for network games that involve your teams or other games of interest. For non affiliates: Take a look at the robust lineup of games. Don't you want this growing mountain of content on your site? The iNK Barrel network has grown to a powerful level. Exploit it.

Papers Lose Appeal In Wisconsin Case
The Wisconsin high school activities association is constitutionally entitled to sign exclusive contracts for Internet streaming of high school sporting events, a federal appeals court affirmed this week. The ruling is sure to increase interest in sports broadcasting, and reminds us of the urgency to secure those rights. In addition, it will bolster school officials' interest in signing exclusive agreements for local sports events. If you haven't already entered this business in your market, the time to act is now. One thing we know for certain: Someone will be broadcasting your high school sports games. It should be you.

Ohio Papers Seek To End Broadcast Ban
The Ohio Newspaper Association has opened a dialog with the Ohio High School Activities Association regarding the ban on live broadcasts on Friday nights. The ban all but eliminates the chance for papers to broadcast high school football games.
Publishers in the state, ONA Executive Director Dennis Hetzel and iNK Barrel had a preliminary conference call with the OHSAA on Aug. 19 and follow up meetings are planned with the association's media committee.
Newspapers in the state want to start broadcasting football games and are hoping that OHSAA officials are open to revisiting a ban they adopted years ago before the internet became a mainstream avenue for live video.
Video Ads Grab Attention, Gain Acceptance
Adweek reports that online video is the most effective medium for making an impression. According to comScore, 173 million people watched videos online in May. It found that viewers are more receptive to online video ads than to traditional television ads and remember them more readily. Consumers of free online video have grown increasingly receptive to sitting through ads, especially to watch long-form programming.
That is according to a report from FreeWheel which, after studying billions of online video and ad views, found that viewers usually will sit through as many as three ads when watching long-form programming, but they are less receptive to sponsor messages when viewing videos that are five minutes or shorter.

Word Of Note: A note from M&A firm W.B. Grimes:
If your web site is going to be financially viable, it is imperative it be set up to take video ads. And it's important at least one member of your ad sales staff understand the nuances of selling TV advertising in a digital world.
