The Ideas From the Field Keep Coming

New Affiliate Makes Money with Election Day Coverage
The week the Rome News-Tribune in Rome Georgia joined the network, editors there struck on a good idea: Live election coverage. A few days later on Nov. 2nd they set up a feed on the iNK Barrel system from the government center in downtown Rome. The broadcast registered nearly 900 views - great numbers for a first broadcast - and the Tribune was able to sell three sponsors for the broadcast and generated new revenue.

"Partnering with iNK Barrel allowed us the latest technology to give our readers and web audience a much deeper look at election results than ever before," said News-Tribune Publisher Otis Raybon. "iNK Barrel allowed the Rome News-Tribune to take our readers inside as the activity was talking place. Now that is Hyper Local reporting. We plan to use this technology on many future high interest local events."

Brand Your Broadcasts
The most successful papers on the network have branded their video experience. They've created a logo and brand name that viewers can look out for and instantly recognize as live streaming news or sports content. This enables them to distinguish themselves in their market, on their web sites and with advertisers.

The television industry is changing dramatically. Thanks to companies like Logitech, Boxee and Google TV, Internet content is now a programming option just like regular cable television. iNK Barrel believes your brand has a place in that content lineup.

Take a second look and create a solid plan with editorial and advertising goals that will extend your paper's brand into the online video programming medium. If you need a hand with this strategy our support team can give you examples from publishers around the country.

Tales From The Front
An affiliate publisher called today and told us that a local radio station had taken the initiative and sewn up the high school sports video broadcast rights in the market, leaving the new affiliate on the sidelines. Our view? Local sports have always been newspaper territory and they should be in the new web video medium. Tell your neighbors to give us a call and help us make sure they don't miss the opportunity.

Basketball Is Upon Us
With so many new affiliates joining the network and gearing up for the basketball season, the network schedule of games is continuing to grow.

Don't forget to add your games to the list. The sooner you do, the easier it is for other papers to identify away games or other notable games they can sell in their home markets. (And don't forget to keep an eye on the schedule yourself. There are opportunities there.)
